Trunk o junk

Trunk o junk

I ain’t got nothing better to do, so here’s some dumb photos.

Behold, all of my comics live in my house now! Well, just about all of them. There are some odds and ends that I still haven’t found/need to get but this is like 99% of what still exists.

My dusty crusty trunk holds mainly old pages of Pathetic Aesthetic, which I drew all through high school and into the beginning of college, so probably like 2000-2004. There was all kinds of crap in there, though dating from 1996 up to 2008. Most of the stuff that was worth a damn was already here at the house, but my dad gave me the order to get everything of my old room. I’ll get there eventually. 😛

Right now I am in the process of getting it all organized. Here’s most of it:

Please don’t mind my messy room. We are in the process of rearranging the dining room to build shelves, so everything is a disaster right now. Top box holds newerish stuff, trunk is all Pathetic Aesthetic. There are hundreds of pages of Pathetic Aesthetic, and there’s still more at home somewhere.

Top box is split into two smaller boxes: Art Club Art and the sequels are in the front and the emo comics and my thesis (more like ego comics, amirite) are in the back.

I keep the old and new versions of Art Club out because I reference them a lot. The original is so so bad but I made myself reread it completely a month or two ago (alcohol helps lol) and there was a lot I didn’t remember. in some ways it’s better than o remember, but in a lot of ways it’s so much worse. Oh god.

The original Art Club is 14 chapters and 152 pages long, but they are very large pages (11×14) with tons of panels on each page.

Current version is 11 chapters (45-ish planned) and I think 252 pages long, but the pages are only 5.5 x 8.5.

Anyway, my plan for this stuff is to put it in proper storage (mainly oversized photo boxes) and then shelve it once our shelves are hung.

More junk from the trunk:

I guess I drew this at work at the park? A Bravo at the park was their code word for vomit. So if you heard a Code Bravo over the walkie-talkies, you knew someone threw up somewhere. 😛

Art Club: the screenplay! This was for my screenwriting class. I was too lazy to come up with a new story, so I rewrote the first Alex story as a screenplay. It’s not very good, and my professor and classmates did not hold back when they critiqued it. A lot of what they said was true, though, and I have tried to keep some of their criticisms in mind as I work on the stuff I’m doing now.

Well, one person liked it. I feel bad because I do not remember this Jessi person at all. 😛 she must not have been a writing major.

Here is a Pathetic Aesthetic strip from maybe 2001 that features a proto-Deanna, ha ha. I will do a deep dive on Pathetic Aesthetic someday. The language and some of the jokes aged poorly, but the two main characters (Art Club Deanna’s parents) are constantly on the verge of an existential crisis, so some of it is weirdly topical somehow.

Yeah, I saw a yard gnome once. It didn't scare me.
